For four years now I’ve been operating under the name ‘always, by amber’ - and it’s worked well. My story? That I offered handmade wedding and events paper goods that lasted, always and forever.
But with anything, things evolve. Life changes. When I gave birth to my first boy in 2017, I was under the impression that I’d be able to work on my shop while he napped and everything would stay the same, it would just take me longer to work on orders. Boy was I wrong. I ended up shutting the shop down for 9 months before I was able to feel like I was able to stand on my two feet again.
It’s been a slow process getting back into it, but eventually I hit my stride and was able to take a limited number of orders at a time. Then February I found out I was pregnant again (another boy, whoo!), and I knew things were going to change again come October (my due date). I’d really been enjoying working on the design aspect of my products, so I decided I was going to move my business in that direction. I can manage the custom work on digital files much better than I can create labor-intensive handmade items. So, over the past few months I’ve been working hard at creating new ready made and customizable printables for weddings and other special events. I just finished uploading the last of the listings to the shop earlier this week, and I knew my next move was going to be a new name. always, by amber didn’t fit in with my new direction. I knew I wanted ‘design’ in the name, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to go with Amber W Designs or just aw designs. In the end, aw designs won out, and I created this new, modern, yet classic logo. I knew I wanted something super simple and super clean. No more watercolours, no more cursive fonts - a total transformation from my last logo update! So here we are, aw designs - wedding + events stationery and printables. Officially launched, officially changed. Officially on a new path, and I could not be more excited for you guys to come along on this new journey with me!
I will be keeping all ready made items (signs, guest books, etc…) until they sell out. Fully assembled wedding invitations will also still be available until baby #2 arrives. After that, it will be fully digital orders (with the odd exception I’m sure), until I can get my feet on the ground again and navigate life with TWO little ones (AH!!!) Looking forward to hearing your feedback on the new name and look :)
In the meantime, here’s a look at some of the new items available!
My little shop's been in business for just over three years now, and over that time, the look and feel has been slowly changing. I started off with a really rustic vibe - and don't get me wrong, while I still LOVE everything rustic, always, by amber has been evolving, both as a brand, and personally. This past year has brought about significant changes in my life - I became a first time mom to the most incredible little man. But if there's one thing I can say about motherhood - it that it's anything but glamorous. Most days my hair is tied up in a bun, I have no makeup on, and I live in yoga pants. Needless to say, I have been really feeling the itch for a little mini makeover. Logan is turning one next month (cue tears), and I'm feeling all kinds of emotions as we enter this next phase. And since I'm way too busy chasing him around to put on mascara or style my hair most days, the change comes in the form of a new look and feel for always, by amber! I believe the new look better reflects not only how the shop has grown over the years, but where I'd like to continue to take it.
So where did the inspiration for the new look come from? If you've been following along, you may have noticed that I've REALLY been enjoying working with watercolours over the past little while. I have also REALLY been digging grey and blush everything, it's such a pretty combination. A few weeks back I was commissioned to create a grey baby shower guest book with light pink and white flowers. I came across some beautiful watercolour florals and absolutely fell in love. And from there, I knew exactly how I wanted always, by amber to look. And while the name remains the same (still creating pieces that will last, always, and forever), I feel like this is more me. I would also like to start branching out to other events, not just weddings (though they are still my number one!), baby and bridal showers, so the new tagline is also more encompassing to all events and special events.
So without further a due, let's check out the brand new always, by amber, shall we?!
OLD BRAND (rustic feel, wordy)
NEW BRAND: (elegant, timeless, pretty)
I'm super excited to share this with you - I feel reinvigorated by this little face lift, and can't wait to share some new and exciting ideas over the coming months! What do you think?!
Well hello there friends, remember me? It's been a while! Yes, I know, I know, I kind of went MIA for a bit there - but for good reason ... we had a baby! On June 7, 2017 I gave birth to my beautiful son, Logan, and it's been a crazy ride ever since! I had visions of re-opening the shop not long after he was born - I'd work while he peacefully napped throughout the day. I'd work when he went to bed at night. Boy, was I delusional. Newborns have their own schedule (NONE!), and sleep is a fleeting thing. That being said, I kept the shop on vacation until I felt a little more well-adjusted to working with a baby!
During the first few months of having Logan, I was also busy creating some goodies for my best friend's wedding, which took place at the end of October! Between trying to stay afloat with a newborn and the wedding, I have been pretty busy these past few months! But I am happy to say that the shop has officially reopened! Some of the time frames on items have changed slightly, and I will only be taking select custom orders at a time, so please bear with me as I adjust to life as a working new momma!
Since my best friend (Brittany)'s wedding has come and gone (and was an absolutely PERFECT day - who gets 21 degree weather on October 21st?!), I'm now free to share what I've been up to over the past couple of months! Brittany and her now husband Brad were going for a super romantic, classic and elegant look for their big day. They landed on grey and blush (with accents of rose gold in their decor), so I played around with a few options, and they fell in love with the blush ombré (I was secretly hoping they would - it was my favourite too)! Below is the suite I created for them. It includes their invitations, escort cards and booklets that were used on their tables as guest books to read on their anniversaries! While I didn't end up doing their menus, I had sent them a prototype just in case they needed them. And their vows booklets I sent them as a gift (and one for their beautiful daughter Brooklyn too). I also made a few wooden signs, their card box decal and their seating chart (apologies for the terrible iPhone pics at the wedding - I'm hoping their photographers were able to snap some better quality ones!)
I must admit, this is my favourite suites I've created so far. Not just because it was for my best friend (though that is a BIG reason!), but the blush ombré is super timeless! And that font is super elegant. So I'll leave you for now to admire this beautiful suite. For any inquiries, please send me an email at alwaysbyamber (at) gmail (dot) com. Thank you for your patience over the past few months - I look forward to getting back to work!
Something old, something NEW: ladies and gentlemen, I have upped by wedding invitation game! A whole bunch of watercolour floral wedding invitations have been added to the shop, including these bad boys below! Have a look around the shop and let me know what you think! Many more designs and colours to come, but for now let me introduce:
I've really been digging nautical themes lately - I love the fresh colours and cute details you can add to events - baby showers in particular! I've put together some really creative ideas for those planning a nautical themed baby shower. All sources are listed below :)
What you'll need:
- Four 6x6 canvases
- Cricut machine
- Create a Critter cartridge (or if using the Explore, the monkey, hippo, elephant and lamb files)
- Plantain Schoolbook cartridge
- Scrapbook paper/cardstock
- Spray adhesive
- Grey paint
- Sponge brush
How to make them:
First, paint your canvases (two coats, letting each coat dry in between).
In the meantime, cut your background squares with the Cricut, using the square file on the Plantain Schoolbook cartridge. (Outer square 5.5", inner square 5")
Using the Create a Critter cartridge, cut the following animals in the following sizes:
- Lamb - 4"
- Monkey - 4.5"
- Hippo - 3.5"
Elephant - 3"
Using the same cartridge, cut some background images (clouds, plants, vines, etc...) I used a mix of these from the cartridge, not necessarily the ones that corresponded with the animals I chose)
Adhere everything together with spray adhesive and let dry! And voila! Your very own adorable nursery art! There are so many options for this - I have a few more ideas in store for future babies ;) Have a great week/weekend!

Amidst all the different color combinations to choose from for your wedding, sometimes it's refreshing to see a sophisticated black and white palette. There are so may different color palettes out there to choose from for weddings, it can be quite overwhelming when you start planning. One color that seems to be particularly popular these days is grey - paired with blush, yellow, blue, lavender, peach - and one of my new personal favorites, MINT! So here's a little grey and mint wedding inspiration for all you brides-to-be looking to nail down your wedding palette.
Welcome to my little corner of the Internet! Here's where I'll be sharing new shop items as they become available, as well as other DIY projects!
I saw this idea for a 'kissing menu' for the reception online and I loved it. What a fun alternative to the typical 'clink your glass to get the bride and groom to kiss' tradition! I couldn't find a menu online that I loved, so I decided to create my own. And I thought, why keep this to myself? Free things as a bride-to-be are always a score!
Simply download the kissing menu file, print, and cut along the lines. Each kissing menu measures 4x6" and can be put in a frame on a table or added to card stock for an extra pop of color! I hope you enjoy this little freebie!
